ILM Level 3 Award in Workplace Coaching for Team Leaders and First Line Managers

This workshop will introduce you to the practice of coaching to improve the performance of others. Successful completion of this course will lead to the Institute of Leadership and Management’s Level 3 certificated Award in Workplace Coaching for Team Leaders and First Line Managers.
The ILM requirement for this award is:
- attendance at four one day workshops spread over a prescribed period of weeks
- submission of a written assignment on the topic of good practice in workplace coaching and organising workplace coaching
- undertaking a minimum of 6 hours of workplace coaching and maintain a coaching diary to reflect on personal coaching experience.
The Workshops
Day 1: Understanding good practice in workplace coaching
During this first workshop candidates will be able to:
- describe the effective workplace coach’s role, responsibilities, characteristics and behaviours
- identify workplace situations that can be dealt with through coaching
- choose a range of coaching approaches
- use basic coaching models
- explain the importance of assessing learning styles
- agreeing learning outcomes
- overcoming potential barriers to ensure that workplace coaching is effective
- assess own ability to use a variety of interpersonal communication strategies and give effective feedback to learners on their performance to coach them in the workplace
Day 2: Organising workplace coaching
In this workshop, candidates will be able to:
- identify resources to support safe and effective coaching in the workplace
- identify and use available learning opportunities
- coach within an appropriate coaching environment
- create and maintain appropriate coaching records
- support learners through the use of coaching journals
- identify coaching competencies
- use coaching records to identify areas for improvement in own workplace coaching practice
Day 3: Applying workplace coaching skills
This workshop ensures candidates will be able to:
- use relevant oral communication skills for coaching
- interpret body language
- give and receive feedback and encourage learners to give feedback
- develop professional coaching relationships
- create and agree coaching contracts
- ensure ethical coaching
Day 4: Undertaking supervised coaching in the workplace
This workshop is set up to deal with:
- difficult situations faced in coaching and developing responses
- analysing and identifying good practice in coaching to enhance further professional practice
- embedding coaching practice in work
- assisting candidates in completion of coaching diaries prior to submission for ILM assessment (candidates will have tutorial support in this workshop to enable them to complete their coaching diary – candidates are asked to bring a laptop)
About These Workshops
- The workshops will involve you in a mixture of interactive exercises and discussion. There will be opportunities to practise your new skills through role playing exercises in a supportive atmosphere.
- Our trainers are experts in their topic and deliver courses in a practical, interactive style
- The maximum number of people on a training course is 12 so that the trainer can accommodate the learning needs of each delegate
- A two course buffet lunch and unlimited tea and coffee are included in the price
Timing
Four one day courses taken over four weeks, the first day starts at 8.30 a.m. and finishes at 4 p.m, all the other days start at 9.30 a.m. and end at 4.30 p.m. with half an hour for lunch.

About the Facilitator
Ray is an accomplished trainer specialising in management development and has more than eighteen years of experience. He attended university as a mature student to achieve an Honours degree, thereby progressing into teaching. Ray has worked for a cluster of quality dealerships such as Porsche, Ferrari and Mercedes-Benz and became the Training Manager of the same Scottish quality dealership group. He has worked with a wide portfolio of clients since and has helped them become more efficient in a variety of areas including customer service, team building and problem solving.
Ray has carried out assignments in aerospace, defence, local and national government organisations, a wide variety of manufacturing and service companies and the National Health Service. He is a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. In addition, Ray is a qualified assessor and verifier with the Scottish Qualifications Authority and has extensive working knowledge of the ILM (Institute of Leadership and Management) qualification.

If your business is located in the West of Scotland you may be eligible for a grant of up to 50% of the cost of participating in these courses. There are a number of places available which are reserved for businesses with less than 250 employees and companies must meet certain eligibility criteria.
