Conducting a Learning Needs Analysis

“The ability to learn faster than your competitors may be the only sustainable competitive advantage.” Arie De Geus

Without the right skills and targeted investment in the development of the workforce, businesses cannot hope to compete successfully.

  • The lack of basic skills costs a typical business of 50 employees, £165,000 per year (Ernst and Young)
  • UK productivity is 13% below that of other major economies (Office of National Statistics)
  • In Britain £34.5b is spent on training each year by employers, but this is not necessarily used effectively

As those responsible for the learning and development function come under more and more pressure to justify spend a planned and effective Learning Needs Analysis can both prevent skills shortages and a waste of finance on inappropriate or unnecessary training.

The workshop will:

  • Show you how to undertake a structured and comprehensive learning needs analysis
  • Help you to identify key learning needs linked clearly to business / organisational needs
  • Highlight effective ways to report the findings to senior management
  • Demonstrate how a scarce resource can be used effectively to get the best results
  • Ensure that training with limited value can be avoided
