Introduction to Management - 2 Day

Do you want to understand the role of a manager, find out how you can develop your management skills and improve the performance of your team? This 2 day programme will give you the tools and techniques you need to be more effective in dealing with the everyday challenges of management. You will:

  • Improve your management skills and develop yourself as a manager
  • Understand how to improve motivation in your team and achieve better results
  • Learn the importance of effective communication and how to communicate effectively
  • Develop your understanding of the importance of delegation and learn how to delegate effectively
Course Outline

Day 1

Developing yourself as a Manager

  • Understand the roles, functions and responsibilities of an effective manager
  • Appreciate the limits of a manager's authority and accountability
  • Seek, accept and respond positively to feedback on personal performance to improve team performance
  • Understand and practice different styles of leadership and match individual styles to specific circumstances
Motivating your Team to Perform

  • Understand the importance of balance between the team, the task and the individual
  • Find out what motivates the individuals in your team
  • Understand how to address under performance
Day 2

Communication

  • Understand the importance of effective communication
  • Understand the communication process
  • Identify and overcome barriers to effective communication
  • Understand the different methods of communication and when they are appropriate
  • Practise giving valid and effective feedback
Delegation

  • Understand the benefits of effective delegation
  • Identify tasks which are appropriate for delegation
  • Understand and practise the delegation process
About this workshop

  • This workshop will involve you in a mixture of interactive exercises and discussion. There will be opportunities to practise your new skills through role playing exercises in a supportive atmosphere
  • Our trainers are experts in their topic and deliver courses in a practical, interactive style
  • The maximum number of people on a training course is 12 so that the trainer can accommodate the learning needs of each delegate
  • A two course buffet lunch and unlimited tea and coffee are included in the

Timing
Courses start at 9.30 a.m. and end at 4.30 p.m. with half an hour for lunch.

Judith is a supportive, motivational trainer who is passionate about helping individuals to develop their skills. She has extensive experience in training, coaching and developing people and focuses on helping others succeed and grow. Judith has a Certificate in Professional Coaching and has a MA (Hons) in Management Studies & Psychology

If your business is located in the West of Scotland you may be eligible for a grant of up to 50% of the cost of participating in these courses. There are a number of places available which are reserved for businesses with less than 250 employees and companies must meet certain eligibility criteria.
