IOSH Managing Safely

Foreseeing risk is the first step to preventing accidents and saving lives. This intensive IOSH (Institute of Occupational Safety and Health) approved course equips managers with the awareness, knowledge and skills to enable them to recognise, control and manage potential hazards at work and comply with the law. At the end of this five day course, managers and supervisors will have the confidence to apply progressive and effective strategies back at work.
Assessment is by practical exercise and multiple-choice test paper. Successful delegates receive the prestigious IOSH Managing Safely Certificate.

Module 1: General Approach
The principles of good safety management
Policy making and planning, implementing and recording
Quality assurance and total quality management
The principles of risk management
The role of advisers, occupational doctors, nurses and hygienists

Module 2: Understanding why Incidents involving Injury or Damage occur
The immediate and underlying causes of accidents
The accident cause and result concept

Module 3: Applying Management Principles to Safety and Health
The concepts and hazards and their control measures

Module 4: Behavioral Factors Affecting Safety and Health Performance
The need to generate positive attitudes to safety and health by both employers and employees

Module 5: The Legal Framework for Safety and Health at Work
Part A - European Law
Part B - Common Law
Part C - European Directives and UK Act and Regulations

Module 6: Communication Skills in relation to Safety and Health
The principles of communications
Barriers to communication and methods of overcoming them
The methods available to establish effectiveness in communication

Module 7:Nature of Important Commonly Occurring Hazards
Possible adverse effects
Risk assessment criteria and control and maintenance of commonly occurring hazards

Module 8: Specialist Hazard Modules
Specific modules will be identified for delegates' own organisations where appropriate

NB Completion of this course does not certify competence or confer exemption from professional examinations that lead to corporate membership of IOSH.
