Using RSS for business

RSS, or Really Simple Syndication, is still seen as rather geeky. But the fact is that RSS revolutionises the way you use the internet. Delegates on our Practical Introduction to Using Social Media for Business course find this perhaps the single most useful tool in their social media armoury.

Quite simply, RSS means that the information you need comes to you, instantly, rather than you having to go out looking for it. By aggregating content from unlimited sources automatically, you can dramatically reduce the time you spend on websites, blogs, news services and even Google – and dramatically increase your awareness of who is saying what in your space or about you.

We will show you how to:

  • Understand RSS
  • Identify RSS ‘feeds’ on web pages
  • Set up an RSS reader
  • Subscribe to RSS feeds
  • Manage your feeds in folders
  • Share RSS feeds with colleagues
  • Pull in smart searches as RSS feeds
  • Synchronise your feeds between desktop and mobile

About the Facilitator

Kyle MacRaeYour Trainer
Kyle is a successful serial entrepreneur with a background in journalism and a focus on building brands through social media marketing. In 2005, he founded Scoopt.com, a social network of amateur photographers selling newsworthy photos and videos to the media. This was an innovative, disruptive model that used the power of web 2.0 technologies and network effects to grow a business with zero spend on advertising. Getty Images acquired Scoopt in 2007. Kyle subsequently headed a pioneering social media project for Channel 4. He currently helps companies exploit the social media toolset to reach new audiences in new ways.
