Using YouTube and Flickr for business

YouTube and Flickr are free web-based resources that allow you to store videos and photographs online. You can also link to or embed your multimedia content from these sites on your own website or blog. All very useful. However, from a business perspective, YouTube and Flickr give you instant access to vast, engaged networks of potential customers. The trick is taking your content to these networks rather than waiting for people to stumble upon your website. Hook your customers with creative video, engage them in market research, invite them to contribute their photos and videos to your public ‘pool’, and push your message through these sites to a potential audience of millions.

We’ll show you how to:

  • Create compelling content (broad overview of using photos and video for business)
  • Create YouTube and Flickr profiles
  • Customise your YouTube channel
  • Publish a public Flickr group
  • Easily embed photos and videos on your blog (see the Blogging for business course in this series)
  • Encourage interaction and word-of-mouth spread
  • Use YouTube for customer service
  • Target potential customers
  • Show off your products and services

About the Facilitator

Kyle MacRaeYour Trainer
Kyle is a successful serial entrepreneur with a background in journalism and a focus on building brands through social media marketing. In 2005, he founded Scoopt.com, a social network of amateur photographers selling newsworthy photos and videos to the media. This was an innovative, disruptive model that used the power of web 2.0 technologies and network effects to grow a business with zero spend on advertising. Getty Images acquired Scoopt in 2007. Kyle subsequently headed a pioneering social media project for Channel 4. He currently helps companies exploit the social media toolset to reach new audiences in new ways.
